Several remote vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Icedove mail client, an unbranded version of the Thunderbird client. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project identifies the following problems :

  - CVE-2007-3734     Bernd Mielke, Boris Zbarsky, David Baron, Daniel Veditz,     Jesse Ruderman, Lukas Loehrer, Martijn Wargers, Mats     Palmgren, Olli Pettay, Paul Nickerson and Vladimir     Sukhoy discovered crashes in the layout engine, which     might allow the execution of arbitrary code.

  - CVE-2007-3735     Asaf Romano, Jesse Ruderman and Igor Bukanov discovered     crashes in the JavaScript engine, which might allow the     execution of arbitrary code.

  - CVE-2007-3844     'moz_bug_r_a4' discovered that a regression in the     handling of'about:blank' windows used by addons may lead     to an attacker being able to modify the content of     websites.

  - CVE-2007-3845     Jesper Johansson discovered that missing sanitising of     double-quotes and spaces in URIs passed to external     programs may allow an attacker to pass arbitrary     arguments to the helper program if the user is tricked     into opening a malformed web page.

  - CVE-2007-5339     L. David Baron, Boris Zbarsky, Georgi Guninski, Paul     Nickerson, Olli Pettay, Jesse Ruderman, Vladimir Sukhoy,     Daniel Veditz, and Martijn Wargers discovered crashes in     the layout engine, which might allow the execution of     arbitrary code.

  - CVE-2007-5340     Igor Bukanov, Eli Friedman, and Jesse Ruderman     discovered crashes in the JavaScript engine, which might     allow the execution of arbitrary code. Generally,     enabling JavaScript in Icedove is not recommended.

The Mozilla products in the oldstable distribution (sarge) are no longer supported with security updates.

New mozilla-thunderbird packages are available for Slackware 10.2, 11.0, 12.0, and -current to fix security issues. Slackware is not vulnerable to either of these in its default configuration, but watch out if you've enabled JavaScript.

Updated firefox packages that fix several security bugs are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5.

The remote host is affected by the vulnerability described in GLSA-200711-14 (Mozilla Firefox, SeaMonkey, XULRunner: Multiple vulnerabilities)

    Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Mozilla Firefox and     SeaMonkey. Various errors in the browser engine and the JavaScript     engine can be exploited to cause a memory corruption (CVE-2007-5339 and     CVE-2007-5340). Before being used in a request, input passed to the     user ID when making an HTTP request with digest authentication is not     properly sanitised (CVE-2007-2292). The titlebar can be hidden by a XUL     markup language document (CVE-2007-5334). Additionally, an error exists     in the handling of 'smb:' and 'sftp:' URI schemes on systems with     gnome-vfs support (CVE-2007-5337). An unspecified error in the handling     of 'XPCNativeWrappers' and not properly implementing JavaScript     onUnload() handlers may allow the execution of arbitrary JavaScript     code (CVE-2007-5338 and CVE-2007-1095). Another error is triggered by     using the addMicrosummaryGenerator sidebar method to access file: URIs     (CVE-2007-5335).
  Impact :

    A remote attacker could exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code,     gain the privileges of the user running the application, disclose     sensitive information, conduct phishing attacks, and read and     manipulate certain data.
  Workaround :

    There is no known workaround at this time.
