XML 解析 C 库 expat 的 UTF-16 解码支持中发现一个缺陷，其中低代理的处理方式与高代理相同。解析特别构建的 XML 输入可能会导致越界读取，以及由此产生的无限循环，进而导致拒绝服务。仅支持 16 位字符的版本受到影响，在 Debian 中，这是 libexpat1 程序包中随附的 libexpatw 库。
此外，此更新还修正了之前的安全更新 （） 中引入的回归 （DSA-6404-1）：在 32 位架构上，大于 2 GiB 的文档会因内存不足错误而被错误地拒绝。
对于稳定发行版本 （trixie），已在版本 2.8.3-1~deb13u1 中修复此问题。
